Surgical closure of LAA during mitral valve surgery

Figure 6. 2D, upper esophagus, short-axis view of the LA and LAA
Figure 7. Color Doppler, upper esophagus, short-axis view of the LA and LAA

Figures 6 and 7. Post-CPB TE exam. A mechanical mitral valve prosthesis has been positioned. In these short-axis images the LAA cavity is no longer seen secondary to surgical closure. Color Doppler imaging (Image 7) shows no LAA flow.

Figure 8. 3D, upper esophagus, surgeon’s view of the LA

Figure 8. The 3D rendering of the LA cavity (lateral and anterior walls) shows the occluded orifice of the LAA (compare to Image 4 above).

Figure 9. 3D, upper esophagus, surgeon’s view of the LA
Figure 10. Color 3D, upper esophagus, surgeon’s view of the LA

Figures 9 and 10. These 3D images show the floor (inferior MV annulus, with the MV mechanical prosthesis) of the LA and later-superior walls of the LA with the orifices of the left lower (superiorly in the image) and upper (inferiorly in the image) pulmonary veins (PV). LA inflow from the PVs is seen in Image 10.
